Unimaginable poverty.
Two million homeless.
Endless civil war.
Fathers losing their jobs and then their homes for refusing to support the oppressive dictator.
Stores being looted by police as the shopkeepers are held at gunpoint.
A government that refuses to protect its people from the raging virus or provide needed resources, like food and medical care.
Nicaragua is on fire.
In the middle of the political unrest and violence, hundreds of single moms are quietly doing all they can to keep their children alive, even if it means digging through the trash for food and clothing.
As dawn inches over the mountains each morning, you find them in the dump awaiting a fresh load from the local garbage trucks. Most have their children with them…some just barely old enough to walk. Together, they search for edible food, items that could be cleaned up and sold for a few dollars, or scraps to build (or rebuild) the walls of whatever shelter they have cobbled together.
They don’t seem to notice the nauseating stench of rotting garbage. They just do what they have to do. They keep their eyes down; they don’t talk to strangers. They are past the point of protecting their dignity; feeding their children is all that matters to them.
Your gift of any amount goes straight to providing these moms (and the elderly living in these unthinkable conditions) food, clean water, and supplies. We are also building homes — permanent concrete block homes with indoor plumbing, lockable doors, a kitchen, a chicken coop, and a garden. These homes are deeded to the mothers, so no man can ever kick them to the curb again.
We are restoring their dignity, their hope, and their future. We have already built over 2,000 permanent, concrete-block homes in places like Santa Pancha and Chinandega. Those homes are deeded in the mother’s name, so they can never be kicked out of their own homes again.
Every day, we provide meals, medical care, and clean water to over 5,000 orphans, widows, and extremely poor single moms across Nicaragua – all because you care about others. All because YOU are amazing.
As always, 100% of your gift goes directly to the poor, never to our overhead. It’s our promise to you.
