Lezi’s Story, A Journey Toward Home
Last year, on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, I met a beautiful and resilient mother named Lezi.
In 2021, her family moved from New York to Cahuita, Costa Rica, inspired by the children’s father’s dream to purchase land and build a home. While living there, Lezi gave birth to their third child, Enoch, who became a Costa Rican citizen.
Within a year, the children’s father traveled back to the United States for a visit and never returned.
Because Enoch is a Costa Rican citizen and his father refused to sign the necessary passport documents, Lezi and her children became trapped in Costa Rica. With no financial support and no clear path home, she was left to provide, protect, and persevere on her own.
And by God’s grace, she has.

With a smile that carries both strength and faith, Lezi began cooking and creating jewelry for the local community. She and her children gathered fresh mangoes from the land to make homemade mango chutney, faithfully selling it at the local market each week. She prepared South African inspired meals in borrowed kitchens and delivered them on foot with her children by her side. Her handcrafted jewelry reflected her heritage and honored her roots.

Her earnings were enough to buy groceries and occasionally afford a taxi. They were not enough to fully sustain the family or provide a pathway back home.

Lezi and her children endured tremendous uncertainty. They moved from place to place, faced financial hardship, and relied on the kindness of friends and neighbors to help meet basic needs. Through every challenge, she continued to fight for her children and trust God for the next step.
Now, that next step has finally arrived.

Recently, Lezi was able to secure legal representation in Costa Rica. Through the efforts of her attorney, she has now been granted permission to leave the country with her children.
What once seemed impossible is finally becoming a reality.

After much prayer and consideration, Lezi has made the decision to return to the United States, where she can receive support from family, find stable employment, and begin rebuilding her life. For the first time in years, she has a clear path forward and an opportunity to provide a safe and stable future for her children.
However, there are still significant expenses standing between her family and their journey home.
The funds raised through this campaign will help cover:
- Attorney and legal fees required to secure her family’s release
- Passports and travel documentation for the children
- Airfare and relocation costs to return to New York
- Basic resettlement expenses as they establish a safe and stable home
The total amount needed is $8,000.
At King’s Ransom Foundation, we believe no mother should have to fight alone and no child should live without the security of a safe place to call home.
For years, Lezi has demonstrated extraordinary courage, determination, and faith while navigating circumstances that would overwhelm most of us. Today, she is closer than ever to freedom, stability, and a fresh start.
When we meet both physical and spiritual needs, we reflect the heart of Christ. This is more than helping a family purchase plane tickets or pay legal fees. This is restoration. This is hope. This is helping a mother and her children step into a new chapter filled with safety, support, and opportunity.
Thank you for taking the time to read Lezi’s story. Please pray for her family as they prepare for this transition. If you feel led to give, your support will help bring them home and provide the foundation they need to begin again.
Together, we can help turn years of uncertainty into a future filled with hope.
Thank you so much for with this cause
